Frequently Asked Questions

Q. ~ My pet is old, or aggressive, should I tranquilize him? Or will you tranquilize him?

A. ~ We prefer that the animals NOT be tranquilized and we do not administer tranquilizers. A tranquilized animal can be more dangerous to groomers and to themselves. If an animal "comes-to" and does not know what is going on, they are more likely to bite, without warning. Also, the stress of "coming-to" and not knowing his surroundings can cause a health risk to your pet, especially if he is a geriatric pet. Please call us with questions.

Q. ~ Do you groom/bathe cats?

A. ~ Yes! We are proud to be home of one of Austin's few cat groomers!. Call us to make an appointment.

** Please make sure you bring your kitty to the shop in a carrier **

Q. ~ Do you "potty-walk" the animals?

A. ~ Yes, all animals are taken on potty walks.

Q. ~ Do you feed animals that come in for grooming or a bath?

A. ~ No. Please feed your baby before their appointment.

Q. ~ What time will my pet be ready?

A. ~ Between 3 and 6 pm. We do not guarantee out-times. Every animal must be bathed, hand-dried, and then groomed. Grooming can be a time-intensive process. It is our goal to take our time with your animal. We do our best to accomodate special needs and we work on a loose first-come-first-serve basis depending on the services desired. We call as soon as your pet is ready. It is best to schedule the appointment on a day when you are flexible.

Q. ~ My puppy is just old enough for his first groom. What is the next step?

A. ~ You are wise to consider your puppy's first groom. When she has reached the age for her first groom, the sooner the "table-training" begins, the more successful all future grooms will be. Bring her in to Midtown and we can begin the relationship that will allow her to grow comfortable with a specific groomer and learn how to be groomed. Puppy grooming can be a gradual process. We start off with bathing, move toward nail trimming and " tidy-up" trim, and progress up to a full groom.

Puppies first grooms may require an additional "table training" fee which will go away as your puppy learns table-manners. This fee ranges from $10 - $15 (in addition to the fee for the groom). If a puppy does not require training, there will not be a charge.

Puppies must have had all series of vaccinations, including Rabies, in order to be groomed at Midtown. Please provide documentation of completed vaccinations upon arrival. No exceptions.

Q. ~ How much does it cost for a bath? Groom?

A. Prices vary based on 3 factors:

1. Breed and Size

2 . Condition of Coat / Animal

3. Amount of time taken to complete the groom / Behavior

~ Please call us. We will give you the breed-specific price range.

** Phone consultations are estimates only**

Q. ~ My pet is shedding like crazy, but I don't want to shave off her beautiful coat. What can I do?

A. ~ We have two options for our clients.

1. The Under Coat Removal Service is an intensive conditioning bath and blow-out that removes the dead undercoat. This is one of our most effective treatments and a hit with our clients. We are the only shop in town that offers the Under Coat Removal. The Under Coat Removal is the price of your breed's bath, plus $44 per hour. (usually takes 1/2 - 1 hour). Your pup's first Coat Removal will take the longest amount of time as there is usually a lot of undercoat that has built up. Subsequent visits take less time.

2. The other option is our Furminator Treatment which includes our Hydrosurge bath and special comb-out of shedding fur. Ferminator treatments are the cost of your breed's bath plus $15 - $22 de-shedding brush treatment.
